Ireland 1-1 Sweden: Ibrahimovic helps out with crucial point

Zlatan Ibarhimovic’s dashing run on the left flank and eventual square play resulted in the equaliser for Sweden as they forced Republic of Ireland to a 1-1 draw on Monday in their opening game of  Euro 2016  at the Stade de France.
Wes Hoolahan had masterfully gave his side the lead in the early stages of the second half in Paris, but a Ciaran Clark own goal with less than 20 minutes remaining ensured that the spoils were shared between the two teams.

Ireland went into the match having lost their last four games at European Championships – the worst run of any Euro 2016 finalists – but they enjoyed the better of things in the opening period and had the first shot on goal after nine minutes.

Despite having the better chances, Ireland waited till the restart of the second half before taking the lead. The breakthrough came when Seamus Coleman cut inside his man from the right flank before cutting a ball back into the middle that Wes Hoolahan met with a well-controlled half-volley into the bottom corner.
Ibrahimovic, looking to become the first player to ever score in four separate European Championships dug deep for the equaliser and he had a hand in it for Sweden even though it was Ciaran Clark that headed the ball in.
