State Comptroller of Immigration, Funke Adeuyi, has said that about 730
illegal immigrants have been repatriated to their various countries
of origin including Niger, Chad and Cameroon over their inability to
show travel documents and/ or expiration of same between January and
April this year.
Adeuyi further
said that the Command within the period under review refused 39 f
ECOWAS nationals entry into the State due to defective travel documents
and other related offences.
The immigration
boss made these disclosures to The AUTHORITY in Calabar, while reacting
to the recent kidnap of five expatriates and the involvement of her
office in the rescue of the victims made up of three Australian, one
South African, and one New Zealand nationals.
She dismissed the
alleged involvement of some of her officers in the recruitment scam
into the Immigration Service, adding that the matter has been reported
to the police.
“None of my
officers has been brought to my notice as being involved in the alleged
recruitment scam. I am aware that the matter has been reported to the
police, it may interest you to know that the alleged fraudster is not
an immigration officer. Some people allow themselves to be duped because
there is no recruitment going on. So people should be conscious of the
presence of fraudsters everywhere and should be careful not to fall
victim.
“I want to use
this medium to advise the public not to allow themselves to be duped by
fraudsters. Recruitment is free even when it is being done”, she
stated.
