Anambra community boils over arrest of leaders

The sleepy town of Oba community in Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State is currently under intense tension over the arrest of the President General (PG) of Aboji Akanano area of the town, Nze Dozie Nweke,.
The PG was allegedly arrested by a team of Special Anti Robbery Squad
(SARS) operatives who stormed his residence around 8.00am last Saturday in an operation that was said to be led by one CSP Ben Igwe.

The CSP allegedly claimed that his team was dispatched from the Inspector General of Police (IGP)’s office Abuja.
The PG and four others who were in his residence were said to be beaten and assaulted by the operatives of SARS who shot sporadically into the air to scare other members of the community.
All attempt to trace the whereabouts of the arrested PG and others by the elders in the community and family members as at the time of filing this report has not yielded any positive result as their visit to the headquarters of the Anambra state police command and other SARS offices across the state revealed that the victims were not there.
The wife of the arrested PG, Mrs Chigozie Nweke, while narrating her ordeal in company of the wives of those arrested to The AUTHORITY said that, “the policemen came to our house around 8.00 am, my husband was still in his boxers discussing with his brothers and they started shooting.
“Just look round, you see traces of blood on the ground, I don’t know if they have killed my husband and the others they arrested with him. My husband is a respected and honorable person and that is why he was elected the President General of the Aboji Akanano community. He is not a criminal.”
Mrs Nweke noted that her husband’s trouble started after his election victory as some very powerful individuals who are not favorably disposed to his victory threatened to deal with him and make his administration ungovernable.
“My husband has petitioned the Inspector General of Police, the Commissioner of Police in Anambra State and other relevant offices over the attempt to criminalize him and others who stood with him during the election,” she explained.
The PG’s wife said that she and her children are traumatized by the experience as some of them got beaten before the policemen eventually allegedly took him away.
Meanwhile, some youths in the community are already threatening fire and brimestone should anything untoward happen to their President General and others in police net.
The youths, however, called on the Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano to intervene before the matter degenerate into total breakdown of law and order.
