EFCC urged to release FCT Director
Citizens Watch Nigeria (CWN) has condemned the continued incarceration
of the Director of Abuja Geographic Information Management Systems
(AGIS), Hajia Jamila Tangaza, on the alleged purchase of an Abuja
property despite meeting all the bail conditions as stipulated by law.
It stated that after critical analysis of the matter as it affects the
bail conditions of the issue, that the group is compelled to say that
Hajia Tangaza is a seasoned media practitioner of repute who has carved
a niche for herself at the BBC and having served at the Media
Department of the Federal Capital Territory before her appointment
recently as Director of AGIS.
According to a statement by the Executive Secretary of the group,
Kenneth Aigbegbele, “Jamila Tangaza has met all her bail conditions with
the EFCC but is still kept in the custody against her wishes and
fundamental human rights and the rule of law which the present
administration has canvassed to uphold at all time.”
It, therefore, urged the EFCC to immediately release her due to her
poor medical state brought about by continued incarceration, a
development which negates her fundamental human rights and also makes a
mockery of the war against graft.
It said while CWN endorses the anti-graft war, the commission should consider her present state of health.
