Governor who tried to travel without visa disgraced at airport
Nigeria is a nation of dramas. If not, how can one explain how a
sitting Governor planned to enter another country (outside of West
Africa) with proper documentation?
This was the plight of Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, who planned a trip to Saudi Arabia for lesser hajj on Wednesday evening.
He plans was cut short when it was discovered at the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport, that his Umrah visa to Saudi Arabia had expired.
Mr. Bello had flown in a domestic flight from Abuja to Kano, surprisingly to validate his visa before his trip.
How the Governor was cleared by immigration staff still remains a mystery. It was gathered that he had already boarded the Saudi Arabia bound aircraft and sat on his reserved seat.
According to our sources, his aides busied themselves with rectifying his travel documents.
At the peak of the processing at the Saudi Arabia consulate in Kano, it was discovered that the Kogi State’s visa had expired.
Shamefacedly, he disembarked from the flight.
The obviously angry Mr. Bello went to Kano State Government House, where he passed the night.
It is not certain whether Mr. Bello cleared himself later today with the Saudi Authorities.
