Amichi Anglican community demands action on S/East roads

The Amichi Anglican Community in Nnewi South Local Government Area of Anambra State, has appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to declare a state of emergency on roads in the South East geopolitical zone.
The church particularly urged the President to immediately fix the Onitsha-Nnewi-Amichi-Uga-Okigwe federal highway.
In a communiqué issued at the end of the second session of the 3rd Synod of the Diocese of Amichi with the theme: “Dare To Be A Daniel”, the church named the roads that deserve emergency action from the Federal Government as the Nnewi-Okigwe, Enugu-Onitsha and the Aba-Ikot Ekpene-Port Harcourt Expressway.
It said that the repair of the highways will ease the hardships now faced by commuters.
The Synod started from Wednesday, 8th June- Sunday, 12th June, 2016 at St. Philip’s Church Eziama, Amichi in Nnewi South Local Government Area of Anambra State under the divine guidance of the Holy Spirit and the president of the Synod, the Rt. Rev’d Ephraim Okechukwu Ikeakor, the Lord Bishop of the Diocese of Amichi.
The communiqué was signed by Ven. Henry O.R. Amobi, Clerical Synod Secretary, Lady Amaka Udogu, Chairman, Communiqué/Resolution Committee and the Rt. Revd Ephraim O. Ikeakor, Bishop of Amichi Diocese.
The Synod frowned at the abrupt manner with which the Federal Government removed subsidy on petroleum products, which it lamented had thrown the country into more hardships and urged the government to expedite action on palliative measures to cushion the effects of the price hike in petroleum products and electricity tariff.
It however commended President Buhari on his tackling of the Boko Haram insurgents and corruption in the country.
The Synod condemned the incessant bombing of oil installations by militant groups which have caused more damage on the battered economy and urged the Federal Government to address the immediate and remote causes of these serious agitations in the Niger Delta.
The Synod frowned at the manner Fulani herdsmen takeover people’s lands, kill and violate their victims’ human rights.
Consequently, the Synod advised the executive and the legislative arms of government to enact laws, prevent these obnoxious actions of the herdsmen that cause avoidable conflicts with farmers and villagers.
It asked Fulani herdsmen to graze their cattle in their localities and transport them for sale to other parts of the country.
“The Synod also condemned the “unprovoked killing of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) members who were on a non-violent procession and demanded that every Nigerian be treated equally.
“The Synod urges the Church leaders to go back to teaching ministry to allow the gospel presented to their congregation to permeate and sink in, thereby making them trust and obey God alone to fulfill their purposes in life”.
The Synod congratulated the Governor of Anambra State, Willie Obiano, on his award as the Best Governor of 2015 by the SUN Newspapers and asked the governor to extend government’s presence to all towns and communities that make up the Diocese of Amichi.
