Abia monarchs, lawmakers warn Ogah against security breach
Traditional rulers in Abia State, as well as members of the State House of Assembly, have warned Dr. Uche Ogah against throwing the state into anarchy following his botched attempt to take over power from Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu on Thursday.
The monarchs who paid a solidarity visit to Gov. Ikpeazu yesterday in Umuahia, frowned at the attempt to unseat the governor in a manner that almost threw the state into chaos.
Chairman of the state’s Council of Traditional Rulers’ Council, HRM Eze Eberechi Dick who led a delegation of his colleagues to the governor, pledged their total and unflinching support to Ikpeazu.
Similarly, the Speaker of the House of Assembly who led the members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) caucus on solidarity to the governor, lambasted the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for issuing a certificate of return to Ogah despite a pending appeal by Ikpeazu.
The Speaker blamed both INEC and the judiciary for what he called the constitutional confusion in the state, and warned against any action capable of disrupting the prevailing peace in the state.
He described the action as a threat to democracy, and declared the continued support of the House to the governor until he gets justice at the appellate court.
Responding, Ikpeazu thanked both delegations respectively for their solidarity, and vowed to vigorously resist any attempt by anybody to unseat him illegally.
“We won’t allow the return to the era of impunity. The Governor of Abia State is an institution; where as you can cow me as a person, you can’t cow the governor of Abia. Any attempt to supplant me will be resisted,” Ikpeazu vowed.
