World's largest cruise ship, Harmony of the Seas, sails on inaugural trip
History was
recorded on Sunday, June 5, 2016 in Barcelona, Spain when the biggest
and most luxurious cruise ship in the world, the popular Harmony of the
Seas, made its inaugural sailing. A feat in the global circle of
cruise tourism development, the ship made its voyage to Barcelona with
as many as at least 4,500 guests on board.
The cruise ship,
built by the French and regarded as a ‘wonderful engineering feat of the
century,’ made its way to the home of Barcelona Football Club in Spain
from the Southampton Port in the United Kingdom before reaching its
destination, billed as its summer base for its Mediterranean journeys,
on Sunday.
Apart from being
the widest cruise ship ever built with the capacity to carry 6,780
guests, the wonder of a ship is also taller than the Eiffel Tower while
boasting more than 2,500 staterooms, 20 dining venues, 23 swimming
pools and a park with more than 10,000 plants and 50 trees.
Before arriving
in Barcelona, the Harmony of the Seas, built at a cost of more than
$1bn in the course of over three years, docked in Vigo in the northwest
and at Malaga, dwarfing the small Mediterranean port.
Harmony of the
Seas, regarded as being in a world of luxury of its own, parades not
only the finest sophistication in fittings and fixture, but ensures
that every item on board is of standard. It is the 25th ship to join the
Royal Caribbean International fleet.
Having taken a
total of 2,500 workers to build at the STX France ship yard in
Saint-Nazaire and some 10 million work hours, work on the enormous
vessel began 32 months ago in 2013.
The Harmony of
the Seas, simply a wonder to behold with the impressive and largely
irresistible array of luxury facilities, is a grand investment not just
in the arena of tourism but as far as human development goes in recent
times.
