Schneiderlin replaces Diarra in France Euro squad
Manchester United midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin has been called into the France squad for Euro 2016 after Lassana Diarra was ruled out by injury, it has been confirmed.
The Marseille man has a problem with his left knee, it was announced on the France team’s official Twitter account.
The hosts, the favourites to win the tournament, have already been forced to call Sevilla’s Adil Rami and Samuel Umtiti of Lyon into the squad after injury ruled out Real Madrid’s Raphael Varane and Barcelona’s Jeremy Mathieu.
Blaise Matuidi fired his side into a 20th-minute lead before Vincent Aboubakar levelled two minutes later.
Olivier Giroud’s spectacular finish before the break put the home side in the ascendency before Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting equalised two minutes before the final whistle. Payet, however, had the final say with his wonder strike.
The former Southampton midfielder was initially excluded from the squad following an underwhelming debut season at Old Trafford but will now be hoping to make some impression at the Euros at home.
Didier Deschamps’ side start their campaign against Group A rivals Romania on June 10.
