Real Madrid end De Gea chase
Spanish giants Real Madrid have admitted defeat in their pursuit of Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea, according to reports in the Spanish capital on Thursday.
Much has been made in Spain of Florentino Perez feeling he has a moral obligation to bring the goalkeeper back to his homeland after tying up a deal for him last summer.
That transfer infamously fell through at midnight on deadline day, leaving De Gea stranded in Manchester despite having signed a contract with Real Madrid.
But Perez has now given up on De Gea, according to Marca, with Zinedine Zidane focused on rewarding Keylor Navas for his fine form in their Champions League-winning season.
Navas, of course, was to be sent to Manchester as a makeweight for the United number 1.
Jose Mourinho was understood to be keen to keep De Gea at Old Trafford, and has started making his mark on the Man United squad after signing £30million Eric Bailly and renewing Michael Carrick’s contract for a further season.
