Leicester chasing Ighalo’s strike partner at Watford
Leicester City have launched a bid to sign Odion Ighalo’s
strike partner at Watford striker Troy Deeney, according to the Daily
Telegraph.
The Foxes are reportedly urging Vardy to consider their counter-offer as they look to keep their star striker from Arsenal’s clutches, but will attempt to sign Deeney irrespective of Vardy’s final decision.
The Premier League champions have earmarked £15m to sign Deeney who scored 78 goals in 166 league appearances for the Hornets in his last four seasons at the club.
The Foxes must now decide whether to match Arsenal’s contract offer, which is in excess of £100,000-a-week, and weigh up the impact of losing Vardy against the possibility of disrupting the dressing room if they keep him on significantly higher wages than the rest of the squad.
Regardless of Vardy’s future, champions Leicester want to sign £15m-rated Deeney who scored 13 Premier League goals this season.
The 27-year-old is settled at Vicarage Road, but the lure of Champions League football with Leicester may prove difficult to turn down.
