JOHESU begins 7-day warning strike June 22
Following the inability of Federal Government to meet the demands of
health workers under the auspices of Joint Health Sector Unions
(JOHESU), the group has declared a seven-day warning strike which
commenced yesterday (Wednesday).
The leadership of JOHESU has therefore directed all its members in
Federal Tertiary Health Institutions to immediately proceed on a 7-day
warning strike from 12:01am of Wednesday 22 June, 2016.
Members of JOHESU comprises of about seven unions and constitute about 90 per cent of the workforce in the health sector.
In a communiqué at the end of its meeting in Abuja, yesterday, the
group noted that it was shocked to hear from the federal government
delegation at the meeting yesterday that there was no agreement that was
signed between it and the federal government which needed to be
implemented.
The communiqué was signed by the National President of Medical and
Health Workers Union of Nigeria (MHWUN), Biobelemoye Joy Josiah;
National President, National Association of Nurses and Midwives
(NANNM), Comrade Adeniji Adeniyi and seven others.
While expressing its frustration, the JOHESU said: “Following
repeated ultimatums totaling 92 days issued to the Federal Government by
JOHESU, a meeting was called for Monday June 20, 2016, at the instance
of the Federal Government with a view to resolving the issues in
dispute.
“At the rescheduled meeting of Tuesday, June 21, 2016, it was observed
that despite the series of meetings earlier held with committees and
sub-committees set up to look unto the various issues presented by
JOHESU and agreements reached, to our utmost surprise the federal
government asserted that there was no agreement on the issues upon
which erstwhile Secretary to the Federal Government set up a
sub-committee.
