Iheanacho gets fresh assurances from Guardiola
Nigerian striker Kelechi Iheanacho may have received
fresh assurances of his relevance under the incoming Manchester City
boss Pep Guardiola, after the Spaniard narrowed his attacking targets to
just two names – Nolito and Leroy Sane.
Iheanacho took City by storm in his debut senior season but many had expressed fears that with the exit of Chilean gaffer, Manuel Pellegrini he may be limited in opportunities.
However, with just two players being targeted up front, it would suggest that Iheanacho will be given the opportunity to be Segio Aguero’s understudy, with Wilfried Bony expected to leave.
At the moment, Guardiola has kicked off his summer spending with the signing of Ilkay Gundogan in a deal worth around £20m.
He plans to make as many as six more additions before the transfer window closes, and is determined to strengthen an attack that is over-reliant on Aguero.
Nolito is poised to be his second signing, with sources in Spain claiming he has already agreed personal terms on a three-year deal.
To make sure he doesn’t make life unnecessarily difficult for himself, Iheanacho it is understood has opted to go on pre-season with the Citizens instead of heading to the Rio Olympics with the Nigeria U-23 team being handled by Coach Samson Siasia.
