Firm donates equipment to Nigeria Modern Pentathlon Federation
An indigenous firm, Zeepro International Ltd.,yesterday donated sports
equipment to the Nigeria Modern Pentathlon Federation (NMPF) in Lagos.
The equipment donated include fencing uniforms and helmets, Olympic
table, two laser guns, water dispenser and microwave, according to the
News Agency of Nigeria report.
Pentagon is an Olympic sport that comprises five events.
They are fencing, 200m free style, swimming, show jumping with horse
and a final combined event of pistol shooting and a 3200m cross country
run.
The sport has been a core sport of the Olympics since 1912.
Zephrynus Ikeh, the CEO of the firm, who described himself as sport
enthusiast, said he was delighted to contribute to sports development.
``Pentathlon, being a new sport in Nigeria and Olympic sport for
decades, requires generosity of all and sundry to help the sport to
occupy its rightful place among competing nations,'' he said.
Ikeh appealed to philanthropists to support the sport.
``I commend board members of pentathlon for facilitating her entrance in Nigerian sports calendar.
``I therefore look forward that in no distant time, pentathlon will
occupy her rightful position in the sports sector globally,'' he said.
Jonathan Nnaji, the President of NMPF commended the firm for the
donation, saying it would help in the training of athletes and assist
them to improve their skills.
``The equipment are the latest ones and they are good. Our athletes
will be able to train with the latest equipment in the sport,'' he said.
Tunde Popoola, the Secretary-General, NOC, applauded the donor for the gesture.
Popoola, who said the equipment would help the federation, urged
individuals and corporate organisations to key into the organisation’s
vision.
