FG has no plans to scrap NYSC-DG

The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brig Gen Sule Kazaure, has dispelled insinuations in certain quarters that the Federal Government is contemplating scraping the scheme.
Kazaure, who stated this Wednesday, while fielding questions from newsmen after the swearing - in ceremony of the 2016 Batch A stream corps members at the NYSC Orientation camp, Umunna, Abia State, said the scheme had come to stay as a tool for national integration.

Addressing the corps members earlier, he advised them to be law-abiding and shun vices while in the camp and all through their service year.
He enjoined them to actively participate in all their programmes during the camping especially skills acquisition programme for self-reliance upon passing out.
The NYSC boss also enjoined the corps members to be patriotic and abide by the rules of the camp as a regimented environment.
“Love our country because we have no other country than Nigeria”, he said, while advising the corps members to avoid night movements and unnecessary trips”.
He advocated inter-ethnic marriages among the corps members as a way of promoting national unity and cohesion among various tribes in Nigeria.
Gen Kazaure also advised the corps members to respect the cultures of their host communities during their service year and to identify with the needs of their host communities.
