Euro 2016: French court sends two English fans to jail

Two England supporters have been sentenced to prison by a French Court for their involvement in the violent scenes in Marseille that have marred the first week of Euro 2016.
The convicted duo are Alexander Booth – a 20-year-old chef – and Ian Hepworth – a 41-year-old psychiatric nurse who  have been sentenced to two months and three months behind bars respectively.
The pair have also been banned from France.

The swift ruling comes a day after UEFA threatened to expel England and Russia from the tournament in France following clashes between the sets of fans.
There were reportedly a number of altercations between England and Russia supporters during the build-up to Saturday’s 1-1 draw at the Stade Velodrome.
The violence carried into the stadium when Russian fans appeared to charge at their rivals on the final whistle, which forced UEFA to open disciplinary proceedings against the Russian Football Federation.
