Delta Assembly receives 23 Bills, passes 10

The Speaker of Delta State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Monday Igbuya, has told journalists that a total of 23 Bills were received by the assem­bly out of which 10 have been passed into law in the last one year.
He also said that a to­tal of 33 motions were received and approved while 16 reports have so far been received and adopted.
The Speaker was speaking at the press conference ushering in the first celebration of the assembly’s one year in office. The event held at the assembly complex in Asaba.
He said that although the yearnings of Deltans are punctuated by pau­city of funds, the House remains committed to giving the best represen­tation to various con­stituencies and the state in general.
Speaking on the anti-cultism Bill, he said the Bill had been passed by the previous assembly but had to be returned to the House for modifica­tion.
He also explained that the Niger Delta Aveng­ers were responsible for the terrible electricity situation in the coun­try. “Nigeria is currently sharing about 700 mega­watts because Power has terribly dropped as a result of the activities of the militants.
Responding to ques­tions from journalists, Igbuya denied that the suspension of Hon Reu­ben Izeze was because of plans to impeach him [Igbuya]. He also refused to give clarifications on the meaning of ‘parlia­mentary misconduct, which Izeze, suspended on Tuesday, June 6 was accused of.
“There are no plans by anybody to impeach me. If you heard any such rumours, then it’s just rumours. Parliamentary misconduct is parlia­mentary misconduct. Only parliamentarians know what it is”.
