Day-old baby found dead in Ekiti river

The bloated body of a day-old baby was on Satur­day morning found in a river along Ijogbo/Atikankan junction in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State capital as residents and commuters plying the route all rushed to the scene to take a glimpse at the dead baby.

Some residents and shop owners around the area rained curses on the mother of the baby who they suspected for dumping such an innocent male child in the river after de­livery overnight.

Passers-by gathered at the river bank taking photo shots of the baby and at the same time saddened by the action of the mother of the child, de­scribing the incident as an act of wickedness on her part.

One of the residents who declined to mention her name said the baby must have been dumped into the river by one of those young ladies who en­gaged themselves in prostitu­tion.

She lamented that the moth­er of the baby deliberately gave birth to the male child and after given birth decided to dump him into the river with the placenta intact. Saying “only a wicked woman, who lack con­science will do such a thing.

Nobody knows what this baby will become tomorrow. Even the woman that did this never know the consequences of her action.

“In a situation where some women are crying to God to bless them with a child, here another gave birth to such an handsome baby boy and dumped him inside the river. What a sad situation”, she la­mented.

The incident caused traffic gridlock along the busy Ijigbo/Irona Market Road as crowd, ve­hicles and ‘okada’ who stopped at the scene took over the road.

Policemen later got to the scene and took the body of the baby away.
