Bridget's decapitation: Police arraign 5 suspects in court
Five out of the 13 persons accused of killing Mrs. Bridget Mike
Agbahime at Kofar Wambai market on June 2 have been arraigned before a
Kano Chief Magistrate Court presided over by Chief Magistrate Mohammed
Jubril on Friday.
The arraigned suspects included Dauda Ahmed first accused person,
Abdulmumuni Mustapha, Zubairu Abubakar, Abdullahi Abubakar and Musa
Abdullahi. Others said to be at large included Salawihu Ibrahim, Dini
Ishyaku, Mallam Sani, Safiyanu, Mallam Umar and Yunusa. According to the
First Information Report (FIR), the 13 accused persons on Thursday
June 2, raised false alarm, accusing the late Mrs. Agbahime of
insulting Prophet Mohammed, with the intention of causing breach of the
peace which led to the killing of Mrs Agahime and destruction of a
Toyota car, valued at N1.4 million, property of Pastor Mike Agbahime,
husband of the deceased.
The accused were arraigned on a four-count charge of culpable
homicide contrary to section 221, inciting disturbances contrary to
section 114, joint act of culpable homicide contrary to section 80 and
mischief contrary to section 331 all of the Penal Code.
When the charges were read to them, they pleaded not guilty to all the charges.
However, the prosecution counsel, Usman Jubril prayed the court to
remand the accused persons in prison custody in view of the fact that
investigation was still on-going as the police were spreading their
dragnet to arrest other accused persons who are currently at large.
Counsel to the first accused person, N.Y. Gorondutse and K.A. Sadiq who
appeared for the third accused person did not object to the prayer.
Chief Magistrate Mohammed Jubril accordingly granted the prayer of the prosecution and adjourned the case to June 28.
