Bet on France to win Euro2016 with Pogba
France’s Les Bleus kick off their campaign for a fourth major football title tonight at the Parc des Princes in Paris, when they take on Romania.
We always talk about history repeating itself so let us look at the omens. Of their last three football triumphs, Les Bleus have won two at home – the European Championship in 1984 and the 1998 World Cup.
And then look at the numbers; France won the Euros in 1984, won the World Cup in 1998 and the Euros again in 2000. See the correlation?
Do the Maths…1984 – 2000 – ???.
Yes, you finally saw it! There has been a 16-year gap between the two Euro triumphs and 2016 is exactly 16 years after their last, so are you still going to bet against the hosts winning this tournament?
Yes, they do not have the class of Michel Platini or Zinedine Zidane in their ranks but they have the precociously talented Paul Pogba, who can light up Les Blues and the tournament as a whole. Les Blues captain, Hugo Lloris said of Pogba on the eve of the tournament, “he [Pogba] has changed his status, from a great talent to a great player.”
They have a team bursting with talent [Martial, Griezmann, etc.], especially in forward areas though it must be said that they are a bit light at the back. They must emphasize their attacking nous to stand any chance with defensive midfielders very important for this ploy to work.
The other reason why you can safely bet on the hosts is the fact that there is really no standout team at this championship. So it is the team that takes its chances with a little bit of luck that will shade it. Even Slovakia cannot be ruled out of the reckoning, which means that the partisan crowd can become France’s effective 12th man.
This is just an advice – do not take it to heart or…let your heart lead you.
