3 ministers are sick, says FG
Two days after President Muhammadu Buhari travelled to London to seek
medical attention over an ear infection, three of his 36 ministers
have also been confirmed sick.
The ailing ministers are Hajia Aisha Alhassan (Women Affairs), Alhaji
Adamu Adamu (Education) and Alhaji Ibrahim Usman Jubrin (Minister of
State for Environment).
The health status of the ministers was disclosed yesterday by the
Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir David
Lawal, at the beginning of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting
at the Council Chamber of the State House, Abuja, on Wednesday.
At present, Buhari is in London for a 10-day treatment, while the Vice
President Yemi Osinbajo is serving as the Acting President and chaired
yesterday’s FEC meeting.
Only 22 of the 36 ministers attended the FEC meeting. Osinbajo had
called on Lawal to offer the Christian opening prayers after the
Minister of Information, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, had similarly offered
the Muslim opening prayers for the session.
Lawal started by praying for the quick recovery of President Buhari,
although presidential aides had insisted days earlier that he was not
ill.
Lawal then sought divine healing for the Minister Alhassan, whom he
said is currently recuperating from a surgery she underwent in the
United States of America (USA).
The SGF also prayed for the quick recovery of Adamu, who is said to be
nursing a back pain that prevented him from attending the meeting.
Soon after this, Lawal was reminded by a colleague not to forget
praying for Jubrin, who was also revealed to be suffering from an
undisclosed ailment. The SGF then prayed for him too.
Earlier, Mohammed had prayed for God to grant the cabinet members the
wisdom to take decisions that would enhance the development of the
country.
