Obasanjo, Tinubu, Ubah, others make Pan-Nigerian democracy honours list
Former
President Olusegun Obasanjo, Senator Bola Tinubu, former Governor of
Lagos State and APC Leader, Justice Mahmud Mohammed, Chief Justice of
Nigeria and Dr Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah, Chairman Capital Oil and Gas
Industries Limited are some notable Nigerians that made the Pan-Nigerian
2016 Democracy honours list.
A
statement signed by Prof Godswill Nnaji, the National Chairman,
Pan-Nigerian Coalition of Patriotic Stakeholders, explained that those
that made the list were selected for their outstanding contributions in
deepening democracy and democratic ethos in the country.
It
also said that they have not been contacted, saying that the 2016
Democracy Day was unique because an opposition party took over power
from a ruling party that reigned for sixteen years.
It
said, “Democracy Day 2016 is critical and hallowed in Nigeria’s life as
a democratic nation, being the first year that our plural democratic
system of government took real roots and truly demonstrated and proved
to the world and ourselves that we could attain our political apotheosis
by effectively managing the alternation of political power from one
political party to another, which is the quintessence of democracy.
