Germany snub Reus, list Ozil, Podolski in Euro squad

Germany have omitted Borussia Dortmund midfielder Marco Reus in a 23-man list released by head coach Joachim Low for the 2016 European Championship in France next month.
Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil, former Gunners attacker Lukas Podolski, now at Turkish side Galatasaray, Manchester United midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger and Liverpool midfielder Emre Can all made the final cut as the world champions go in search of their first European title since 1996.
Explaining the decision to exclude Reus, Low said the reason was down to the fact that the Dortmund star has “massive health problems”, adding that that the mysterious injury means Reus “can only run in a straight line”.

“The medical staff could not give a clear prognosis for Marco,” Low said of Reus’s omission, which comes on his birthday.
“He has massive injury problems and the medical staff was very sceptical about his ability to last through the coming weeks and such a gruelling tournament.
“It is a bitter decision and bitter for Marco.” Low is quoted as saying on BBC Sport.
Given the strains of potentially six weeks of action in France, Low said he simply could not take the risk and include one of Germany’s most exciting players who also missed out on the 2014 World Cup because of injury. Bayer Leverkusen’s Julian Brandt, Karim Bellarabi and Hoffenheim’s Sebastian Rudy have all been left out.
