Unrepentant militants threaten fresh attack in Imo
Residents of oil-rich communities of Ohaji/Egbema Local Government
Areas of Imo State were gripped with fear Monday as unrepentant
militants threatened to attack them.
Their threat cast doubts on the recent peace accord reached by
Governor Rochas Okorocha and some repentant militants, who surrendered
their arms last week.
Following the development, some monarchs from the affected
communities, who had fled their palaces because of the militants’
threats on their lives and attacks, returned home.
The AUTHORITY gathered from community leaders in one of the troubled
areas that the “Red Scorpion” armed gang has started regrouping for
more attacks against the people and oil companies operating in the
communities.
The sources said that some of the militants who surrendered their arms
are also joining in the threat, insisting to continue their attack if
the state government fail to keep its promise.
Meanwhile, one of the militants’ leaders, simply known as “Charleyboy”
who the Nige-rian Army accused of killing some residents, allegedly in
Rivers State. Charleyboy, ac-cording to a source, was hiding in Omoku,
Rivers State while others identified as Felix and Emenike, were said to
have returned to Imo.
Governor Okorocha while receiving arms surrendered by the militants in
the restive ar-eas had promised to welcome all the members who
genuinely lay down their arms. He, however, vowed to deal decisively
with unrepentant ones.
