Ogu, Nwakaeme wins Israeli Super Cup
Nigerian duo of John Ogu and Tony Nwakaeme have emerged as winners of the Israeli Super Cup with Hapoel Beer Sheva courtesy a 4-2 win over Maccabi Haifa yesterday night.
Beer Sheva emerged League champions last season with the Nigerian duo playing vital roles – Ogu won the Best Foreign Player in Israel award while Nwakaeme finished as his team’s topscorer.
However, on a special night, it was Nwakaeme that stole the headlines as he scored a goal and assisted another in the 4-2 win over the former club of ex-Super Eagles forward Yakubu Aiyegbeni.
After the game, both players tweeted on their separate accounts. Ogu wrote: “Number two trophy in my career. Thank God for all.”
His first career title was the league triumph last season, same with Nwakaeme who posted on his instagram:”One goal, one assist. Super Cup Champions. #GodIsTheGreatest.”
Next up for Hapoel Beer Sheva is the UEFA Champions League playoff game with Celtic on Wednesday.
