Cultists on rampage in Imo, raze buildings
Rival
cult groups were on the loose on Tuesday in Obile and Ochia community
in Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area of Imo State as they set over 20
buildings in the area ablaze.
According
to an indigene of the area who does not want his name disclosed on
print, the cult gangs, ‘Asland’ and ‘Degbam’ who were on a revenge
mission on the killing of one of their members struck at the wee hours
of the night and razed buildings belonging to their members in the
process injured scores of people.
However,
the state police command, who had ensured peace returns in the
troubled Awara community, has assured of safety of lives and people of
the community.
The Police Public Relation Officer (PPRO) Andrew Enwerem, disclosed this to the AUTHORITY.
Meanwhile,
the Special Adviser to the governor on Bureau for Niger Delta Affairs,
Hon Justus Ojika, has vehemently condemned the recent attack on the oil
communities of Obille and Assa in Ohaji/Egbema LGA by two rival cult
groups At a press conferences in Owerri yesterday, he appealed to the
indigenes of the communities to remain calm amidst every provocation in
order to give peace a chance.
He urged members of the community never to indulge in any reprisal attack that may escalate more crisis and shed more blood.
