Arsenal legend agrees with Stones’ purchase

Guardiola has bought Stones to replicate Pique at City |ManchesterEveningNews
Manchester City have broken the record for the costliest defender by paying Everton a princely sum of £47.5million for John Stones – who has only played 77 games across three seasons in the Premiership.
But Arsenal legend, Thierry Henry told Sky Sports that the 22-year-old would definitely get better, comparing Stones to Barcelona’s Gerard Pique.

“Stones is the perfect player to play under Pep. I remember when Gerard Pique came to Barcelona, people in England were not convinced about how good he was as a defender – and rightly so, he was struggling.
“The way we played at Barcelona was better for Pique and the same goes for Stones. I’m sure it will be a match made in heaven,” Henry added.
Stones is a ball-playing defender who needs to improve his reading of the game. Guardiola says, “We want to help John show his quality with us and improve on what he has already achieved.
“I like the way he plays the game and I’m looking forward to welcoming him into the squad.”
For the young defender, he has been attracted by the ongoing City project. “I’ve obviously seen what’s going on here at the Etihad, it’s an ambitious club with a great manager so I can’t wait to get stuck in and help achieve the goals.”
Everton have moved fast to cover Stones’ loss by poaching Mark Williams from Swansea for £12million.
