Post-UTME ban: FG orders refund of candidates' money
The Federal Government has ordered universities and polytechnics that
have collected money from candidates on post- Unified Tertiary
Matriculation Examination (UTME) for the 2016/2017 academic session to
immediately refund the money or face sanction.
The Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu, who made this known in
Abuja on Monday, said there was no going back on the recent ban of
post-UTME, adding that any of such exercise conducted this year under
any guise stands annulled.
“The ban is with immediate effect and under no circumstance should any institution violate the directive”, the minister said.
Adamu explained that although he had made this known earlier, the
emphasis had become neces-sary to ensure that no stakeholder is left in
doubt as to government’s position on the matter.
While decrying the situation where final year students in secondary
schools are subjected to too many examinations all in one year, the
minister said the responsibility for admission into public tertiary
institutions lies solely with the Joint Admissions and Matriculation
Board (JAMB) and under no circumstance whatsoever should anybody or
institution take over that responsibility by proxy.
