BoT takes over PDP's leadership
The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) yesterday took over the leadership of the party.
The BoT cited conflicting court orders and parallel conventions that characterised the party as reason for managing the affairs of the party especially as the party’s Constitution did not make room for a vacuum in leadership.
This development was learnt yesterday at the end of a meeting between the leadership of the BoT and staff of the party at the party’s National Secretariat.
The AUTHORITY recalls that the crisis in the party led to closure of the party secretariat on Sunday May 22 on the orders of the Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase.
The secretariat was, however, re-opened on Tuesday which may have led to the Wednesday meeting.
Speaking at an interactive session with the party establishment staff, the Chairman of BoT, Senator Walid Jubrin, explained that there cannot be a vacuum in the party.
Justifying their presence, he said “Nobody has taken the BoT to court.”
He, however, acknowledged that there are conflicting court orders but added the matter will be resolved.
“You are aware that this place was sealed by the police, the reason was to keep the secretariat very safe.
“We the BoT have been asked under the constitution of the party to be in charge of the assets and the liabilities of the party generally.
“It is in that respect that the Inspector General of Police, having considered the importance of our constitution and having considered the importance of the staff of the PDP headquarters here.
