Lagos court remands wife killer in prison

Mr Lekan Shonde who allegedly killed his wife, Ronke Shonde has been remanded in Ikoyi pris­ons by Mrs O. I. Adelaja of Ebute-Metta Chief Magistrate’s Court sit­ting at Oyingbo
He remains in Ikoyi prisons pending the le­gal advice from the office of the Director of Pub­lic Prosecution (DPP). Shonde is facing a one count charge border­ing on murder preferred against him by the po­lice.
In the charge sheet Olalekan Shonde 51, a dock worker, was al­leged to have murdered his wife, one Ronke Shonde 37, on May 5, 2016, at about 2:30pm at 3, Tiemo Street, Egbeda, Lagos, by giving her fist blow on her head.
 According to the charge, the offence is punishable under sec­tion 221 of the criminal law of Lagos state 2011. The accused however de­nied killing his wife.
The prosecutor, In­spector Chinalu Uwadi­one urged the court to remand the accused in prison custody to enable him send the case file to DPP’s office for legal ad­vice.
Meanwhile counsel to the accused, I. V. Mo­hammed who appeared before the court did not oppose the remand or­der.
Adelaja said: “The of­fence is a capital offence, accused is to be remand­ed pursuant to section 264 (1) of the Adminis­tration of Criminal Jus­tice Law ACJL of Lagos State”.
She further stated that the prosecution should forward the case file to the DPP’s office for legal advice and adjourned the case to June 24, for mention.
